Is Father of Invention part of the play canon?
No. Father of Invention is classified as one of Alan's 'grey' plays, but is not considered one of his official full-length works. A 'grey' play is a work which has been produced in some form (i.e. a rehearsed reading) but has not ben published and is not available for production.

Currently, no. Until the play is professionally produced as a full-cast production, Father of Invention will not be published.

Can I read Father of Invention?
Father of Invention will eventually be made part of the Ayckbourn Archive in the Borthwick Institute for Archives at the University of York. At this point, it will be available to read in situ for visitors to the Borthwick Institute.
